Kim was Parousia’s short lived (and forever missed) premier female vocalist who wrote the song “Miss Ogyny” with Garth Huels in 1979.

The song was recorded onto four-track in the summer of 1980 at Filippone Sound in Buffalo, NY with musicians Kim Watts (vocals); Patt Connolly (vocals/flute); Garth Huels (lead guitar/vocals); Barry Cannizzaro (rhythm guitar/ vocals); Gerry North Cannizzaro (drums); Bob Lowden (bass guitar) and Eric Scheda (keyboards).

Kim wrote and sang “Miss Ogyny” to express frustration and anger borne out of her own bisexual feelings during a time of closeted societal norms with little tolerance for anything other than immutable sexual orientations.

Kim resented the hypocrisy of women who claimed to know what they wanted from a close relationship, yet when she made overtures to give that to them, it was rejected and labeled as ‘disgusting’ or ‘weird’ or ‘sinful’. Then Kim watched those same women turnaround to give themselves away to men who mistreated them.

In February of 1981 “Miss Ogyny” was re-recorded onto 24-track during an over-night session at Select Sound in Kenmore NY in order to be included on Buffalo’s very first 97-Rock “home grown” vinyl album titled, “Buffalo Rocks” The release of ‘Miss Ogyny’ on vinyl and subsequent air play on local radio, ignited a flurry of live performance all across Western NY and was a genuine boost to the band’s overall recognition in the area.

Kim Watts performed with Parousia from August 1978 to May 1981; (too short of time really) she parted ways over ‘creative differences’ and the overall direction of the band.

Without Kim as a lead singer, Parousia pressed on as a six-member band to perform the song “Miss Ogyny” once more during a WGRQ live broadcast from Uncle Sam’s night club on September 1981. The live version of the song featured Patt Connolly on lead vocals in place of Kim.

In her professional career, Kim’s love of animals gave her the drive to graduate from the Cornell University School of veterinary medicine and then work at a pet hospital in the state of Virginia, apart from her friends and family in Kenmore, NY where she grew up.

Kim Watts passed away on July 25, 2008 from complications due to cancer. She was a bold and fiery spirit, full of artistic ideas and great passion. I don’t think there was anything that Kim wouldn’t have tried onstage if you dared her to!

LYRICS:

MISS OGYNY

by Parousia

Out in the night they lurk everywhere.

Half of the race, I don’t really care.

supposed emotions fill them full

I really do think it’s all a bunch of bull.

I meet her on the street.

Miss Ogyny

She sucks me ‘till I’m dry.

Miss Ogyny

Flashing all that meat.

Miss Ogyny

Aw, she makes me want to cry.

Miss Ogyny

Well they take all you got in the wink of one eye

And they’ll wave it in your face to make you rise.

They’ll feed you to exhaustion

and you think you got it made

Then they’ll trot away and leave you

frustrated, frustrated, frustrated…

I meet her on the street.

Miss Ogyny

She sucks me ‘till I’m dry.

Miss Ogyny

Flashing all that meat.

Aw, she makes you want to cry

Miss Ogyny

I don’t know why they’re out there

The flirts who walk the street.

Oh God its Miss Ogyny.

Its show, it’s fake

I want some but I just can’t take,

oh God it’s Miss Ogyny.

I’m talking ‘bout you yeah,

Miss Ogyny.

I hate, hate, hate, hate,

hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate,

oh I hate you, I hate you.

(“Miss Ogyny” written by Huels & Watts)

Here’s a band that did a lot, but doesn’t get as much credit as it probably should in WNY music history.

    WOW, Gerry—I just saw this
    YOU DID A GREAT JOB!~~!!!!!!!!!!
I thought the images and the song were super and I loved the pace of the videos changing—matched the music tempo quite well—so hard to do that!
Time for that audio/video production career!
    THANKS FOR SHARING!
