After our show opening for The Knack last Saturday, we were invited back to play Wong’s on a Thursday night in the downstairs room. We took the gig. We were anxious to play as soon as possible and take advantage of our warm reception when opening for the Knack.
On this night, we performed with one other band in the downstairs room, “Let’s Talk About Girls”, a hair metal band. Performing in the upstairs room were three groups, Rocky Share (metal band), Last Word (metal band) and Dancing Eddie (a funk band with full horn section).
I’m surprised anyone came to see us. The Ad in the L.A. Weekely had Parousia listed as Perousia and the Rock City News had us spelled as Peronsia! If you read the entire Rock City News advertisement as one phrase it reads, “Peronsia, let’s talk about girls” Which to me sounds like a discussion you’d have with a young lad about sexual disease and dating…
We really stood out from the pack with Robert’s banging away at the guitar like Pete Townsend at a WHO concert and Patt blasting-out the flute-riffs like Jethro Tull on steroids. The Rock City News printed a short synopsis of our band. They wrote, “Whose sound is likened to Missing Persons, Marillion, Jethro Tull and new Yes…YIKES!!!”
Robert Lowden designed and created another classic concept print ad for the Madame Wong’s show. The ad was published in Rock City News and doubled as a “free admission flyer”. A second free admission flyer was created to promote both this show and our four song E.P. “Turnaround” that was selling at some of the ‘hip & trendy’ record shops on Melrose Ave, Rhino Records, Bleeker Bob’s and Second Time Around.
