The band was called to do this performance last minute on a Monday night. We already had a gig at Wong’s booked for Thursday, February 15th but the urgent call from the bar manager asking for us to appear was our call to arms …and we hoped that by doing this favor, it would increase our chances of opening for the occasional national act that floated through Madame Wong’s West. We didn’t have time to promote the Wednesday night show but Santa Monica was always busy so we weren’t too concerned about pulling in a decent crowd.
This was our eighth show at Madame Wong’s West and our second show with bassist Gary Lee. Gary joined the band this past December and was doing a great job. He’d been playing for several bands in the Los Angeles area hoping to land a record deal and a tour with one of them.
With Gary playing bass the songs sounded thick and full. I wish we had video of this show however there is live video of the same five-piece band at Club 88, December 21, 1989. Look for it here: https://parousiabuff.com/shows/december-21-1989-parousia-headlines-club-88-dudley-taft-gary-lee
