Parousia was the second rock band ever to play at the Shady Grove on Old Route 19 in Boston NY.
When the club started booking rock bands in October 1981, Benhatzel performed first on Thursday, October 22 and then Parousia performed second, on Saturday, October 24.
We knew the guys in Benhatzel pretty-well. They were another local rock-act that got their start at legendary McVan’s night club.
In 1982 Benhatzel (along with our arch rivals, the Beez) landed a track on a Buffalo ‘Home Grown’ LP called “Rock to Riches” sponsored by local radio station Z98 (Wizard Radio) WZIR FM. The LP included tracks from two other bands we knew from the Music Mall, Stross Fletcher and Stiff Mitten.
A year earlier, Parousia’s song “Miss Ogyny” appeared as a track on the 1981 Home Grown LP, “Buffalo Rocks”, sponsored by 97 Rock, WGRQ FM.

“Rock to Riches” LP (1982), StarStream records release #RTR-8205. WZIR (Z98) FM Niagara Falls, NY, w/ Dennison Stars, Benhatzel, Buxx, Karen E. Russ, Triax, Stiff Mittin, Lebel, Stross Fletcher, Bit’er Cherry and The Beez
Our first gig at the Shady Grove landed us $300.00 on a Saturday night… It was almost worth the trek out to Boston NY.
Gregg Filippone showed up to run sound and was paid $60.00 ($10.00 more than his usual fee). Mike Carroll ran the light show and was paid $40.00. The others, affectionately labeled, “Dave and the Roadies” were paid $50.00 collectively.
Barry got his $10.00 for gas and the truck rental cost $63.00 for the night. Buffalo Backstage took 15% ($45.00).
Added up, that’s $268.00 in expense, so we made a cool $32.00 to add to the pot.
Hi, I have a copy of the “Rock To Riches” LP, which is in excellent condition. Would you happen to know if any band members who appear on the album, might be interested in owning a copy? Thanks.
Thanks Laura.
If i find someone interested, i’ll pass the word along to contact you.
