The band manager at Wong’s “fancied” us. I can’t recall her name, but she was friendly and liked our band’s music (oddly enough). Anyway, that’s how we landed a Friday night show on a long summer weekend before the fourth of July, which fell on a Monday this year.  People were out in full force on this Friday night, ready and eager to begin a full weekend of partying considering Monday was a holiday.

This gig at Madame Wong’s marked our fourth show at the club and we knew our way around very well by now. This was also our seventh show since summer hit in May and it was “School’s out” time.  We were playing the downstairs stage, which was a smaller room than the coveted upstairs stage, but hey, it was our very first Friday night at Wong’s. We hit the stage at the prime time slot, 10:00 PM. and had an excellent crowd.

The band was tight tonight! I remember the place was packed, I could see rows thick with people all the way to the back wall. We easily nailed our little one-set of music unofficially dubbed, “The Best of Parousia”, songs like “Tiffany”, “The Weekend Starts Tonight”, “Turnaround”, “Mary’s Gone” , “People’s Court”, “Rock Bottom”, “Caesar of the Modern Home” and “Life is the Real”.

After the show we headed back stage for a few drinks and a smoke and along we way, we made a few new friends.  Also performing on the downstairs stage with us were the bands, Color Wheel and the Purple Beach Drivers. Meanwhile on the upstairs stage the headliners were The Mark Jones Band and Plain English, along with 57 Braves and Little Nightmares.

Before the show, we took out a ¼ page ad in “the Daily Bruin” (the U.C.L.A. college newspaper) and a full page ad in Rock City News. It was designed and created by Robert Lowden who made it into a cartoon adventure where I, (Ger-boy) begin to age-accelerate at an un-natural pace due to listening to “too much Classic Rock”. Frankie “the chip-head” (aka: Bill) attempts to create a serum to reverse the process. “Will Frankie’s Magic Serum save the day?”  I suppose the idea was that you had to show up at Madame Wong’s on Friday July 1st to find out!

If you looked real hard you might tell that the band Parousia was playing somewhere…
